Esse Proxy is a slick, stylish and gloriously brutal Hotline Miami-esque top-down shooter where three uniquely skilled characters fight their way through a cyberpunk city.
Previously featured on Alpha Beta Gamer a year ago, Esse Proxy is a cyberpunk top-down shooter that draws inspiration from the Hotline Miami games. In the game you’ll take control of three different characters, each of which has their own story which intertwines with the rest and takes place at different points in time.
The gameplay in Esse Proxy is quite similar to Hotline Miami, with fast paced gameplay, short levels, one-shot insta-kills, close quarters urban environments and the ability to pick up and use dropped weapons. Each character also has a unique special ability and you can use bullet-time to get the edge over your enemies.
The story in the demo is very confusing (probably because you’re just getting tiny fragments of three different stories), but it’s a hell of a lot of fun to play. The kills feel great, the levels are varied, there’s a nice flow to the combat and the soundtrack rocks. Highly recommended.
