Gaming charity SpecialEffect has set its ‘One Special Day’ for October 7

UK-based charity SpecialEffect is holding its ‘One Special Day’ fundraising event on its 15th anniversary this year. October 7 it is!

Games charity SpecialEffect is turning 15 this year, marking those many years of improving the lives of disabled people and expanding inclusion in video game audiences worldwide. Every year, SpecialEffect holds the day-long fundraising event ‘One Special Day’, and this year the date has been set to match the anniversary – October 7.

The charity works to help make video games accessible to people with disabilities, ensuring that everyone can get in on the fun of video games.

Last year, SpecialEffect raised $800,000 on the One Special Day event for 2021. This time around, over 50 partners from the industry have already pledged support, including Playground Games (Forza Horizon series), Electronic Arts, Xbox, Rocksteady Studios (Batman: Arkham series), and so on.

The list (which you can view here) also includes numerous indie studios and publishers, including Playtonic, Devolver Digital, Wired Productions, and Hello Games.

The goal is to have this year smash the previous record, and it looks like SpecialEffect is well on its way to do just that. The team’s JustGiving page has already raised close to $50,000 and is going strong.

SpecialEffect founder and CEO Mick Donegan spoke about the upcoming event in a press release:

“I can’t over emphasise the importance of One Special Day in enabling our work to bring the joy of video games to physically disabled people across the world. Our team is facing an ever-increasing demand for all of our services – accessibility advice, assessments, the expansion of resources such as gameaccess.info, our DevKit and our Eye Gaze Games website – and the generous support of the games industry in securing the future of these life-transforming, free to access initiatives is hugely appreciated. Despite the challenges of emerging from the pandemic, we’re looking forward to celebrating our 15th anniversary on One Special Day in the company of a truly amazing and supportive industry.”
