‘Desktopia’ – Care for a Tiny Town on Your Computer Screen

Desktopia: A Desktop Village Simulator puts a small, bustling town on the bottom of your desktop, letting you guide its growth or idly watch it change on its own.

Well, you can put the town anywhere you like, as the little place is meant to be a companion while you work or do something else on the computer. Whatever you’re doing, you’ll be able to look over and see what’s going on in your city. You’ll start off with a single character and a patch of road, and as you start doing some work and clearing the space, you’ll be able to start putting buildings down and drawing people to the place. Each of the characters that joins your village has their own personality quirks, so you’ll have to accommodate a variety of folks if you want to keep all of your townsfolk happy.

Desktopia - complex information about a village and its inhabitants, with an image of a town on fire below it

You have access to several types of buildings like libraries, smiths, temples, inns, and more to keep trade going and make people interested in the place. Sometimes trouble will come to town, though. Fires can break out, monsters may come to attack, and your own irate townsfolk might start stirring up trouble. You can step in to tackle it with your player character, can take steps to decide what gets done to protect everyone, or just let things run and see what happens. The game is built for you to be able to take a direct hand in things if you like, but you can also just let things coast and see how everything turns out. It IS supposed to be a constant companion on your screen, after all.

Desktopia: A Desktop Village Simulator is a neat little addition to your screen, letting you have a little town and its people as a distraction or something to keep an eye on. It’s compelling whether you want to get deeply involved or not.

Desktopia: A Desktop Village Simulator is available now on Steam.
