‘Vanaris Tactics’ Offers a Brief, But Punchy Tactical Experience
Vanaris Tactics follows a group of refugees fleeing their oppressors, and you’ll need to make the most of your characters and their abilities to escape.
You are trying to lead a group of refugees outside of Vanaris, but the ruling class doesn’t like the idea of you roaming free. Sends an unwanted message to others who think of escaping their cruel reign, after all. So, they send an array of fighters, archers, and other trained warriors to make an example of you. Each encounter with these killers is highly dangerous, so you’ll want to take a close look at the unique capabilities of your characters and make careful decisions to endure.
While the game does have a look and feel that’s reminiscent to Final Fantasy Tactics, it’s not going to take you quite as long to work through its story. It’s a shorter experience, but its story is still gripping despite that brevity. Also, you won’t be spending hours and hours teaching characters various jobs and coming up with special fighting groups. each of your characters has a class specific to them, which means you won’t be coming up with some game-breaking party or job combination. Instead, you’ll need to make the most of the specific party you have, resulting in some challenging fights to work through. Better make sure you’re always stocked up on the best equipment.
Vanaris Tactics offers several sidequests and secret stories to find on its many paths, rewarding exploration even as your enemies constantly search for you. That it compacts a compelling story, tight tactical combat, neat character abilities, and lots of hidden tales and quests into its brief duration is impressive. It’s also a welcome game to have when you don’t have twenty or thirty hours to play through a longer tactical game.
