Griff the Winged Lion | GamesYouLoved

Kickstarter is a hit and miss, it’s a mixed bag and it’s responsible for successes such as Rad Rodgers, Shovel Knight, Undertale, and Shantae: Half-Genie Hero (in spite of it’s inferior to its predecessor, Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse).

There are times when some indie video game developing teams manage to meet the promises which they’ve set out to do in the first place and there are a few disgraceful rotten apples that didn’t bother to deliver the physical or digital backer rewards.

As a result, potential and future backers refuse to trust Kickstarter with their hard-earned money. I’m still sceptical about Griff the Winged Lion due to how slow it’s raking in cash by the dozen at the moment. It depends on what the project is about.

If you’re a life-long fan of Spyro or Crash, it’s a no-brainer to back Griff the Winged Lion.

Allow me to recap to those of you that missed out on its first Kickstarter campaign from last year, Griff the Winged Lion is a retro-inspired, open-world 3D platformer in the vein as… you guessed it, Spyro The Dragon. Not only that, but the aforementioned game also includes some Crash Bandicoot references and elements.

Running towards the screen segments will be familiar to long-time Crash fans.

A video game such as this game containing aesthetics identical to the PlayStation 1 graphics from the classic Spyro The Dragon and Crash Bandicoot games is risky, particularly with the PlayStation (and the Spyro fanbase) community possibly accusing it to be a rip-off or a poor man’s Spyro/Crash Bandicoot and negative nancys like my younger sister judging it by its “outdated” graphics by claiming the game to be horrible (despite it haven’t launched yet) due to said dated graphics. At the end of the day, graphics never matters. What’s REALLY important are the gameplay, story, characters, character and story development and the quality.

Graphics aren’t always everything and they aren’t be-all and end-all.

In the medieval mythical kingdom of Autumn Terrace, a young Griffin called Griff is called upon to partake in a mystical tradition. Once each generation, an aged mage predicts the destinies of each future leader of the kingdom and bestows them with a role. When the time comes for Griff, his destiny is concealed from him. In order to set things right, he embarks on an epic, treacherous journey across countless uncharted lands and locations the likes have ever seen with the help of his friends (Gargle the Gargoyle, Gavin the Griffin, Terra the Unicorn and Mia the Phantom Cat) to uncover the mystery of why he’s denied of his destiny.

Terra, Gargle, Mia and Gavin lends a helping hand to Griff on his quest.

According to the Kickstarter campaign, Griff the Winged Lion is slated for PlayStation 4, XBox One and Steam releases but their release dates are yet to be announced.

If you miss the old-school 90’s antics of Spyro and Crash Bandicoot, Griff the Winged Lion will be the next best thing.

Accompanied by Gargle, Griff takes it upon himself to seek out his destiny.
