How to Obtain the Hallownest Seals in the City of Tears

Team Cherry’s Metroidvania action-adventure game, Hollow Knight, follows the journey of a nameless warrior called the Knight as he travels through Hallownest, which is now a kingdom ruined by a supernatural disease. As the Knight journeys through Hallownest, he can obtain new items, abilities, spells, and charms that will help him traverse through different areas of Hallownest and defeat enemies.

An example of these items in the game is the Hallownest Seal. According to in-game lore, these items are the official symbols of the Pale King and the Five Great Knights. The symbol is also used as part of an aesthetic all around the kingdom of Hallownest. Hallownest Seals can be found in different areas throughout Hallownest, and in this guide, you will learn how to obtain the Hallownest Seal in the City of Tears!

Hallownest Seal 1

There are two Hallownest Seals that the Knight can obtain in the City of Tears (excluding the Soul Sanctum and the Witcher’s Spire areas), and one of them can be found on top of a small platform in the southwestern part of the City of Tears.

The Knight will encounter various enemies in the City of Tears. Still, the Knight will specifically encounter the following enemies on the way to the first Hallownest Seal: Winged Sentries, Lance Sentries, a Leaping Husk, a Husk Bully, Husk Sentries, a Belfly, and a Husk Hornhead.

Before the Knight can find the Hallownest Seal mentioned, it is recommended that the Knight have the Monarch Wings ability, allowing the Knight to perform a double jump in mid-air, or the Mothwing Cloak ability, enabling the Knight to perform a horizontal dash forwards. With these abilities, obtaining the first Hallownest Seal in the City of Tears will be no challenge.

To find the first Hallownest Seal in the City of Tears, this is what the Knight must do this:

  1. Starting from the City Storerooms Stag Station (the Stag Station in the northwestern part of the City of Tears), take the exit on the left, then take the exit below.
  2. The Knight will encounter Winged Sentries and Lance Sentries in this next room. Head to the bottom of the room and take the exit on the left that leads downwards.
  3. Next, head down below where the Knight will encounter a Leaping Husk and a Husk Bully, head to the right where the Knight will encounter a Husk Sentry, continue to the right where the Knight will encounter a Belfly, drop down on the gap where the Knight will encounter a Husk Hornhead, head to the left, then take the next exit below.
  4. Then, drop down the gap on the left where the Knight will encounter another Husk Sentry, head to the right, drop down the gap and down the platforms where the Knight will encounter another Husk Sentry, head to the left, ride the elevator all the way down, head to the right, drop down the gap (it is worth noting that there is a Bench on the right side of the gap where the Knight can heal and save your progress), head to the left, then take the next exit below.
  5. Next, head to the right, drop down the gap where the Knight will encounter a Husk Sentry, head to the left, ride the elevator, then, on the way down the elevator ride, you will see a metal platform on the right, which the Knight must jump towards with the help of the Monarch Wings ability or the Mothwing Cloak ability.
  6. Then, head to the right, where the Knight will encounter a Winged Sentry; jump towards the next metal platform on the right, where the Knight will encounter another Husk Sentry, head to the right, jump towards the small platforms on the right, head towards the next metal platform above on the left.
  7. After that, head to the left, jump towards the small platform above on the left, jump towards the smaller platform above on the right, jump towards the slightly wider platform above on the right, and above it is a metal platform with something glowing on top.
  8. Next, head to the metal platform above (where the Knight will encounter another Winged Sentry) using the small platforms on the right, then inspect the glowing thing. The Knight has now obtained a Hallownest Seal!

Hallownest Seal 2

The other Hallownest Seal in the City of Tears can be found in a hidden area just above the King’s Station Stagway Station in the southeasternmost part of the City of Tears. Fortunately, the Knight will not encounter any enemies on the way to this Hallownest Seal.

Before the Knight can find this next Hallownest Seal, it is required that the Knight has the Mantis Claw ability, which allows the Knight to cling to walls and jump off of them, the Mothwing Cloak ability, which allows the Knight to perform a horizontal dash forwards, and the Monarch Wings ability, which allows the Knight to perform a double jump in mid-air. Additionally, the player must be proficient at Nail-bouncing as it is needed to acquire the Hollownest Seal. With these abilities, obtaining this next Hallownest Seal in the City of Tears will be no challenge at all.

To find the next Hallownest Seal in the City of Tears, this is what the Knight must do:

  1. Starting from the Bench in the King’s Station Stagway Station, head to the right, then drop down where the Stagway can be found.
  2. Next, head up the wall on the right with the help of the Mantis Claw ability; at the top, quickly jump and dash towards the right side of the roof above the bell that calls the Stagway with the help of the Mothwing Cloak ability, then perform an additional jump with the help of the Monarch Wing’s ability to get above the spikes on top of the roof.
  3. After that, Nail-bounce off the top of the spikes of the roof while heading to the left every Nail-bounce. The Knight can also use the Monarch Wings ability and the Mothwing Cloak ability while heading to the left to perform less Nail-bouncing if the player has a hard time.
  4. Then, at the wall on the left is an opening with something glowing. Get to the platform, inspect the glowing thing, and the Knight has now obtained another Hallownest Seal!

To leave this area, the Knight can Nail-bounce on top of the spikes again, then head to the right with the help of the Monarch Wings ability and the Mothwing Cloak ability, or, if the Knight has the ability, the Knight can simply use the Crystal Heart ability from the platform where the Knight obtained the Hallownest Seal, stop at the wall on the right, and drop back down the Stagway.

After obtaining the Hallownest Seals, the Knight can head to the west of the statue of the Hollow Knight in the City of Tears and find Relic Seeker Lemm, then sell the Hallownest Seals to him for 450 Geo each.
