Project Leonardo: PlayStation Announces Customizable Accessibility Controller
Games like The Last of Us Part II and God of War Ragnarok have been praised for their accessibility options, but it looks like Sony wants to take things up a bit further.
Just in, Project Leonardo has been officially announced, and it’s revealed to be a fully customizable, accessibility controller. Here’s the official image:
Sony Interactive Entertainment designer So Morimoto had this to say about the new controller:
“Project Leonardo is part of the PS5 product family and is based on the same design concept. We were inspired by the idea of all players enjoying the world of PlayStation together. Our team tested over a dozen designs with accessibility experts, looking for approaches that would help address key challenges to effective controller use.”
With some players not being able to access all the buttons on one controller, Sony had opted for a split controller design where they can either combine two Project Leonardo controllers together, or one PL controller alongside the standard DualSense controller.
Players will also be able to tinker with the software to make sure that the controller works best for their needs. The entire point of the device is to encourage players to make it work specifically for them.
It’s definitely great that Accessibility is a topic that’s getting more of the spotlight recently, and hopefully this new controller will be a huge step in the right direction.

For now, Project Leonardo is still in development, but hopefully we can see a launch sometime later in the year.
