‘Romancelvania’ – A Mixture of Monster Love & Lighthearted Metroidvania

Romancelvania makes us ask ourselves why we’re fighting all of these monsters when we could be snuggling them on these cold, spooky nights.

Drac has been a mopey mess for way too long and everyone is kind of sick of the brooding and wrathful goblet-throwing. How do you fix that? With a monster dating show, naturally. The Grim Reaper is hosting and is looking to fix Drac up with someone by the program’s end. Drac probably would put up a huge fuss about this, but they’ve recently lost all of their powers so they can’t really do anything besides participate. So, which of the twelve sexy monsters do you want to get close to? Which ones do you want to eliminate? It’s time to find out which of your monster crush is the strongest.

Inspired by all of the hot monsters just hanging out in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, the game also features action and exploration on top of the double-entendre-laden conversations and narrative segments, having you fight your way across an array of oddball spooky locations. The game doesn’t take itself terribly seriously in its pursuit of monster love, after all. And, I mean, where else are you going to see Drac fighting undead with a lawnmower and then, a short while later, find yourself in a flirty conversation with a pumpkin scarecrow witch? Or fighting Cthulhu in a dress while hopping on washing machines?

Romancelvania is quirky, lighthearted, flirty fun that gives you all kinds of potential monster lovers (all of whom have creative, appealing designs) to impress. The hardest part is honestly figuring out which of  them to go after. Or explaining why you are suddenly really, really into pumpkins.

Romancelvania will be made available today on the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Epic Games Store, and Steam. It will release on the Nintendo Switch at a later date.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Indie Games Plus is currently running an advertising campaign for Romancelvania at the time of this writing. This has in no way affected our decision to cover the game.
