Platinum would like Bayonetta Origins to be the start of a new series

It took a very long time from Bayonetta 3 to arrive on Switch. So long, in fact, that some people questioned if the game was facing development trouble. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case, and the game released just 5 months back.

While the wait for Bayonetta 3 was excruciating, fans of the franchise were very pleasantly surprised to see a very short wait for the next Bayonetta title. Out of nowhere, Platinum announced Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon, a spin-off game that was revealed in December and just launched this week.

In an interview with Famitsu, PlatinumGames’ Hideki Kamiya and Nintendo producer Makoto Okazaki talked a bit about Bayonetta Origins, but more importantly, the future for the franchise. According to both, it seems like there’s considerable interest in pushing ahead with Bayonetta in general, and the Origins side of things as well.

Kamiya: If I just come out and say it openly, we want to make this title part of a new series, and keep expanding the world. There’s plenty of preparation that goes into that, and we are having discussions along the lines of “We want to do this kind of thing right?” with director (Abebe) Tinari. Although we haven’t quite had any of those discussions with Nintendo yet…

Okazaki: (laughs) So there’s certainly nothing concrete we can say at this point, but personally at least, I don’t think this is the end. For now I think it would be best to listen to the opinions of everyone who played this game and consider where we should go next.
