Enter Valisthea in New Trailer for Final Fantasy XVI

It may be a while before Square Enix gives us another look at Fina Fantasy VII Rebirth, but the studio is gearing up for the release of the next mainline entry with Final Fantasy XVI later this June.

Thanks to PAX East 2023, we have a new look at the world of Valisthea, and it looks like a breathtaking setting fitting of a Final Fantasy story. Check this out:

The trailer doesn’t really give us any more hints at the story or gameplay, but the setting of a Final Fantasy game has always been its own thing, complete with magical creatures and all kinds of fantastical visuals.

While we have been getting a look at all the familiar monsters that have been present in previous Final Fantasy entries, this trailer does give us a look at the Chocobos, which will be helping you traverse some parts of the map. After all the previews have been teasing all these giant kaiju, it’s great to see that we’re also getting some breathtaking landscapes in this incoming FF game.

Here’s the description for the game:

An epic dark fantasy world where the fate of the land is decided by the mighty Eikons and the Dominants who wield them.

This is the tale of Clive Rosfield, a warrior granted the title “First Shield of Rosaria” and sworn to protect his younger brother Joshua, the dominant of the Phoenix. Before long, Clive will be caught up in a great tragedy and swear revenge on the Dark Eikon Ifrit, a mysterious entity that brings calamity in its wake.

Final Fantasy XVI launches for the PlayStation 5 on June 22, 2023.
