Interactive story game ‘He F^@%ed The Girl Out Of Me’ seeing physical Game Boy release
Interactive story/art game He F***ed The Girl Out Of Me was originally developed for the Game Boy and released as a digital title. Now everything is coming full circle, as the title is actually getting a physical Game Boy release.
When Ann, a trans person, sees the costs of her transition skyrocketing, she gets drawn into sex work—with traumatizing consequences. In this interactive story, part retro-style game, part graphic novel, she describes how events unfold. The viewer uses arrow keys to influence the movements of the pixelated two-dimensional figures, and walk through the virtual nightclub, for example, or talk to people.
The impact of her bad sexual experience is described in part two, in which Ann uses onscreen text to clearly describe the gamut of emotions it unleashed. We discover just how extensive the sexual trauma is when she explains her descent into depression, and her inability to talk with her mother.
