Dragon Quest franchise sells over 88 million units worldwide

The Dragon Quest franchise may not be huge outside of Japan, but it definitely has its fans. Still though, the Japanese audience swarms Dragon Quest games like none other, and it’s reflected in the latest tally of Dragon Quest games sold.

Square Enix has revealed that the Dragon Quest franchise has now reached 88 million units worldwide. That includes the total of both numbered Dragon Quest titles and spin-offs as well. Unfortunately for us, some of those spin-offs never made their way outside of Japan.

The next title in the Dragon Quest lineup is Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, which is set to release on Switch Dec. 1st, 2023.
