~~FAQ at the bottom of this page~~

The gaming world is long overdue for its first mermaid dark-fantasy, and Loreseeker Games is excited to bring it to life! This open-ocean RPG will put gamers in the fins of a playable mer-person. As you explore the ocean depths, you’ll uncover the forgotten history of Mer civilization and face off against an ancient evil lurking in the abyss. The combat system will feature ranged abilities, melee attacks, hydro-kinesis, and evades, all in a third-person perspective.

Vibe: Ancient sea gods. A sealed Abyss, broken open by the wreck of a sinking ship. Sunlit waters threatened by the rising darkness, and rumors of an imprisoned Siren who’s voice may be the only thing that can stop it. Whale-song, ambient neon synth-wave, and Lovecraftian drone-metal.

The shallow reefs are designed to be a relaxing experience, but the deeper you go, the darker things become, both visually AND thematically.

Whether you’re a gaming veteran, or stepping into RPGs for the first time, we invite you to take a deep breath and prepare to dive into a brand new world. There is something here for you!

LEAD DESIGNER:

My name is David Johnson and I’m the creative director for SIREN.

Just to keep things honest: Our team is very small (for now)! There are five of us, and not everyone has had experience in the game industry prior to this project. I myself am kind of a generalist, but my background is in mod-making and map-creation. This is my first time bringing a team together to create a new IP.

So yes, our team is fresh and untested, and many people will expect us to fail, but I think that the work we’ve done thus far can speak for itself, and the strength of our concept can carry this project to the finish line. This game MUST be made, and no one else is doing it, so we will find the funding and make it happen.

The short-term goal is to expand our team and bring in new talent and collaborators who share our passion for dark fantasy and fictional histories. Interested parties should contact us at [email protected] or via the contact form on our website:

We have the beginnings of something very unique here, and we’re excited to have you with us on this wild quest.

FAQ

“What is Loreseeker Games?”
We are a small team of five people working on Siren in our spare time. We are currently fundraising via Patreon in order to allow our lead developer to work on it full time, for the purpose of completing a playable demo which will prove our concept and allow us to launch a Kickstarter campaign (or pitch to publishers) from a much stronger position (backed by actual gameplay instead of relatively vague concept trailer). Supporters should be aware that we are a new and untested studio, and with this game of this scale we are swinging WAY harder than we have any right to, but no other studio seems to want to make this type of game, so here we are!

“What platforms will the game be released on?”
We are currently developing it for PC (Steam) and PS5. Mobile support will be very unlikely, if not impossible.

“I only see mermaids in the trailer. Will I be able to play as a merman?”
Yes! We plan to have detailed character creation, including gender options, skin tone, tail/pattern selection, and sliders to control face-shape and body-type. These are fairly complex systems, and our team will need to expand before it moves up on the priority list.

“Sirens aren’t the same as mermaids! Sirens are birdlike!”
The Sirens from Greek mythology are not what we’re referring to. We’re using the term more generically, to mean someone with a voice that can compel other beings. (Saying any more would get into story spoilers)

“Will we be able to lure humans and pirates to their death?”
Not in the way you’re probably expecting. While there is one instance of a shipwreck being caused by the Mer (near the start of the game), humans will not be very prominent at all. This is a game about Mer!

“Will our mermaids be able to transform and walk on land?”
No. While there are many magical/supernatural elements in the game, human transformation is not one of them. You’ll be able to explore all of the coves and inlets around the game’s central island, but from the safety of the ocean surface.
