Keep your computer virus free with Bitdefender (Sponsored) – WGB, Home of AWESOME Reviews
Computers can’t sneeze like the humans that relentlessly pound on their keyboards. But like humans they can pick up viruses and infections that rip through their innards, potentially wreaking havoc. But while we might just feel a little crappy for a couple of days, a computer suffering from a virus can lead to personal information being stolen and sensitive data being ripped from hard drives. These digital infections can be devastating. Us fleshbags can do a variety of things to protect ourselves from flu, colds and nasty viruses. We can keep ourselves fit and healthy and eat well, and computers can benefit from regular scans and staying away from dodgy places. Perhaps the biggest thing a human can do is get a flu jab to give them an extra shield. Computers can do this too, using security software like free antivirus software, and that’s where BitDefender comes in.
This is a sponsor I can really get behind because I’ve been using Bitdefender for around 3 years now, trusting its various tools and features to keep my bumbling butt safe. So let’s dive into what this awesome cybersecurity company offers and how it can help keep you and your computer safe as you venture through the many alleys, dingy dungeons and grimy streets of the Internet.
Bitdefender’s security suite has a few different subscription tiers, so depending on what you need there should be a level for you.

As you can see from the chart, Bitdefender isn’t just designed for Windows. You can run it on your phone, and it’s the best Mac antivirus you can buy. You can also get a 30-day trial period, too, without having to enter any payment information or anything like that. Just sign up and try it out.
The software is a breeze to use and all the major features needed to keep your computer safe are on by default. Sometimes running a security suite in the background can tax a computer’s resources, potentially slowing it down, but Bitdefender doesn’t have any issues with this. Testing site AV-Comparatives ran tests on 64 antivirus programs last year and Bitdefender was great across the board.
As soon as you fire the software up for the first time, a full system scan is run. It can take around an hour to dig through everything but it doesn’t get in the way of doing anything else, so you can always fire up a PC game. After that, a quick scan is scheduled for every day which goes through all the most commonly affected areas and checks that nothing shady has popped up.
It’s also worth running a vulnerability scan which checks for any privacy issues, settings and even if there are any critical software updates that need to be done in order to patch potential weaknesses.
Of course, all of this means nothing if the software doesn’t actually stop viruses. Well, AV-Tests put 16 different security suites to the test recently, and out of a maximum score of 18, Bitdefender got 17.5, earning the website’s “Top Product” rating. AV-Comparatives also ran tests that revealed Bitdefender stopped 99.84% of all viruses thrown at it.
That’s not all because the security suite is also exceptional at blocking suspicious websites. I think we all know how easy it can be to stumble onto a dodgy website designed to nab your information, so Bitdefender provides an impressive extra layer of protection. It can detect a malicious site within milliseconds and halts the connection, informing you that the site you are about to enter could be dangerous.
There’s a whole bunch of useful extras in the package too, including a built-in VPN for safer browsing (and checking out streaming shows that are only available in other countries) and a password tool that can track all your passwords and generate new ones.
So don’t let your computer run around the Internet unprotected. Like a human, your computer won’t show the symptoms of a virus or infection until it’s too late, so you need to ensure it’s healthy and shielded from the harmful parts of the Internet.
