PS Plus Essential games for September announced, PS Plus prices increasing – WGB, Home of AWESOME Reviews
Sony has hit us with a double-whammy of news, revealing the free PlayStation Plus Essential games for September while also announced that the price of all PS Plus tiers is going up by a substantial amount. Did they at least soften the news with three excellent games? Ha. No.
First, let’s look at the games. From Tuesday, September 5th, all PS Plus members can grab Saints Row, Generation Zero and Black Desert – Traveler Edition and add them to their library. These are all playable so long as you have an active PlayStation Plus subscription. If you do cancel your subscription, perhaps because the price went up, then you won’t be able to access claimed games. However, if you subscribe again down the line, all the games you’ve claimed will be available. So remember to add this new batch to your library, just in cast.
It’s not a very enticing month, really. Saints Row was the divisive series reboot that attempted to ground a franchise that hadn’t just jumped the shark but also shot it into space. It holds a “Weak” rating of just 63 on Opencritic. Generation Zero is worse with a rating of just 49. It had an intriguing premise battling robots but was ultimately boring and buggy. And Black Desert is an MMORPG that I know nothing about.
Not exactly a scorcher of a month, then, which makes the news that the pricing PlayStation Plus is going up even more bitter. The new prices will take effect on September 6th, and according to Sony will “enable us to continue bringing high-quality games and value-added benefits to your PlayStation Plus subscription service”.
Tier | Original Price | New Price |
---|---|---|
PS Plus Essential | £49.99 / $59.99 | £59.99 / $79.99 |
PS Plus Extra | £83.99 / $99.99 | £99.99 / $134.99 |
PS Plus Premium | £99.99 / $119.99 | £119.99 / $159.99 |
As you can see, the increases are substantial.
If your current subscription is coming to an end and you do intend on extended it, I’d suggest doing it now to take advantage of the current prices. Subscriptions can also be stacked, too.
Sony did not provide any details on how much 1-month subscriptions will increase by.
