Marvel’s Avengers from Crystal Dynamics will be delisted from all digital storefronts at the end of the month, meaning you’ll no longer be able to buy it. However, those who already own it will still be able to play its singleplayer and multiplayer content.
In anticipation of this the game has dropped to its lowest price ever, so if you fancy checking it out, now is the best time.
- $3.99 / £2.99 on Steam
- $3.99 / £4.49 on Xbox (requires Gold subscription)
- $3.99 / £4.49 on PlayStation Store
The game got its last official update on March 31st. This final update also turns off the in-game microtransactions and cosmetics store, giving every player complete access to all of the content. Any outstanding Credits were transferred into in-game resources.
Marvel’s Avengers was far from being a success. While it did manage to become the 7th highest-selling game of 2021, it seems the game as a whole was regarded as a failure. It sold an estimated 3 million copies and cost $100 million to make. This caused then-publisher Square Enix to call it “a commercial disappointment” that failed to generate a profit.
Crystal Dynamics was be sold to the Embracer Group in 2022, where it is now said to be working on a brand new Tomb Raider game that will be published by Amazon.
The critical reception wasn’t stellar for the game, either. I wasn’t overly impressed with its flat gameplay, nonsensical loot system and microtransactions when I reviewed it. But I do think at this low price it is worth a punt, especially with the microtransactions removed.
