Shuyan Saga high-kicks onto Xbox, PlayStation and Switch

For the most part, visual novels can be stunning affairs. We’re not sure many of them reach the graphical heights of Shuyan Saga on Xbox, PlayStation or Switch though. 

Available today on Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch is Shuyan Saga. This new visual novel comes about thanks to the ESDigital Games and Lofty Sky Entertainment teams. This is the first in a long-term collaboration between the two. 

A Chinese fantasy world awaits in Shuyan Saga

Shuyan Saga whisks us off to an ancient Chinese fantasy world, one where martial arts are at the fore. It tells of the rebellious Princess Shuyan who heads off on a journy into the unknown, looking to become a true disciple of Kung Fu. Oh, and she’ll look to be saving the Five Kingdoms from the evil Guer horde as she goes. 

Canadian actress Kristin Kreuk (Smallville, Beauty and the Beast) takes on the starring role of Shuyan. And from there Shuyan Saga tells an authentic kung fu story over 1,400 gorgeous art panels coupled with thrilling 3D action combat. That combat is deep too – featuring over 300 combat animations, referenced from motion captured Kung-Fu techniques of Shifu Longfei Yang, Master of the Shanxi Praying Mantis Style.

The Shuyan Saga experience is further bolstered by beautifully illustrated panels from Chinese comic book master Daxiong. He’s known for his work on Dark Horse’s Star Wars comic and Justice League for DC. It’s safe to say that Daxiong’s stunning artwork is perfectly matched by the game’s original soundtrack, composed by award-winning composer Aaron Tsang.
