Ubisoft quietly announces The Division 3, but it’s a long way off

Instead of unveiling The Division 3 with a flashy teaser trailer or at a big event, Ubisoft decided to quietly reveal that the new game was in development via a press release announcing Julian Gerighty as the new executive producer of The Division franchise.

Gerighty, who is currently toiling away on Star Wars Outlaws, will make the jump to his new role overseeing The Division brand once the Star Wars action-adventure game has shipped. This will include The Division 3, which Ubisoft says Massive Entertainment is currently building a team for.

“This announcement represents Ubisoft’s dedication to the longevity of the brand. In his new role, Julian will drive the many interdependent production elements of The Division brand in a unified direction,” Ubisoft said. “This includes development oversight, operations, and creative vision together with the development teams around the world who are currently developing the mobile game Tom Clancy’s The Division Resurgence, Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland, and Tom Clancy’s The Division 2.”

Gerighty added, “There are only a few games that I can genuinely say blew me away the first time I saw them, and Tom Clancy’s The Division is one of them. I was immediately hooked, like so many others who are part of our devoted player community.”

“It’s a privilege and an honor to be able to continue to build incredible and unforgettable experiences in this amazing world with the most talented teams around the world, and I can’t wait for what’s next.”

While it will likely be several years yet before we hear anything else on The Division 3, we do have the free-to-play standalone spin-off game, The Division Heartland, coming soon.
