Ubisoft has quietly announced The Division 3 – WGB, Home of AWESOME Reviews

These days games are typically announced with a lot of fanfare, especially if they are sequels in successful franchises. Ubisoft has gone a different route, though, slipping a third Division game into a press release like it was the least favourite cousin in a wedding photo.

Today, the company announced that Julian Gerighty has been named executive producer of The Division brand. He’ll properly take on the role once Star Wars: Outlaws has been shipped, which he’s currently working on as the creative director. If you’ve forgotten what that is, Outlaws is Ubisoft’s open-world Star Wars game pencilled in for a 2024 release. Because it’s a Ubisoft game there will presumably be a pile of space-hay to dive into somewhere.

Julian has plenty of experience with The Division having served as creative director on both the original and its much superior sequel. But his ascent to the executive producer chair probably would have gone by without much notice if it wasn’t for a small snippet in the press release which states that part of Julian’s new job would include building out the team to work on The Division 3, currently in development at Massive, the same people who crafted the first two games.

“As Executive Producer, Julian Gerighty will oversee all The Division games and products, including Tom Clancy’s The Division 3, led by Massive Entertainment who is actively building a team for the game,” Ubisoft’s statement reads.

A third game is no surprise since both The Division and The Division 2 sold over 10 million copies each, but it’s odd to see it officially announced in such a strange fashion. There wasn’t even a cake or some sparklers or something.

As for Julian Gerighty, he said: “There are only a few games that I can genuinely say blew me away the first time I saw them, and Tom Clancy’s The Division is one of them. I was immediately hooked, like so many others who are part of our devoted player community.

“It’s a privilege and an honor to be able to continue to build incredible and unforgettable experiences in this amazing world with the most talented teams around the world, and I can’t wait for what’s next.”
