A 60fps mode has been added to Red Dead Redemption on PS5 – WGB, Home of AWESOME Reviews
With absolutely zero fanfare, Rockstar has quietly added a 60fps toggle to their recent Red Dead Redemption re-release on PlayStation 5.
The toggle came in update 1.03 and can be accessed via the options. It’s only available if you’re playing on a PlayStation 5 and appears to keep every other setting as is, so you don’t have to take a hit to performance or a loss in visuals.
When I reviewed the Red Dead Redemption PlayStation and Switch port, I was quite disappointed by how basic it was, and one of my biggest complaints was the lack of a higher framerate. This update really does make the re-release a much more tempting package, although not at the “commercially accurate” price of £40.
I’ve not had the time to test the new update myself to see how stable the framerate is, nor have I seen any feedback from others at this time. Still, if it can reach that target most of the time it’ll be a substantial upgrade to the game.
There’s been no word of a 60fps mode being added to Xbox versions of the game which run through the console’s backwards compatibility mode. Nor has there been any word of the Switch version getting the option, although whether or not the Switch would have the power to run it at 60fps is debatable.
Now, if only Rockstar would release a current-gen update for Red Dead Redemption 2.
