Petition demanding Mojang stops Minecraft mob vote tops 400,000 signatures

Each year, Mojang holds an annual mob vote, where the community can vote to bring one of three new creatures to Minecraft, with the winner announced at Minecraft Live. However, it seems that a lot of players aren’t happy and are calling on Mojang to put an end to the mob vote and add all three mobs instead of just one. Over 400,000 fans have signed the Stop the Mob Vote petition, which calls out the annual mob vote for dividing the Minecraft community and Mojang for not bringing enough new content to the game.

“The mob vote generates engagement by tearing the community apart, leaving fantastic ideas on the cutting room floor, and teasing content that will never be seen in the game,” reads the petition. “That, mixed with the fact that Mojang somehow releases less content with Microsoft’s backing than they did without, means players see minimal content to the game they love, and watch as possibly the one thing to get them to play again is ripped from them.”

The petition’s organizer goes on to say that the vote is “inherently flawed” as content creators “mobilize their fanbases to vote for the least popular option for the joke of screwing over the other voters.”

“So we call upon Mojang. Stop the Mob Vote. Give us three mobs each year. If unpaid modders can add your mobs to the game within days after they’re announced, the least you could do is keep up with the content frequency that made Minecraft famous.”

As it stands, Mojang has not commented on the petition.

Voting opens for this year’s Minecraft Mob Vote on October 13, with the winner being announced on October 15 during Minecraft Live. The three different mobs players can vote for this year are a crab with a giant claw that lets players place blocks further away when building, an armadillo that drops a scute that can be used to craft new armor, and a penguin that lets gives players’ boats a speed boost.

Minecraft Live also promises to reveal more on Minecraft’s next update as well as what’s in store for strategy spin-off Minecraft Legends.
