Halo Reach player makes the Xbox Series X rocket launcher meme a reality

By now, most of us have seen the Commando meme featuring Phil Spencer wielding an oversized Xbox Series X as a rocket launcher, and while the meme itself is an oldie (although something as wonderful as that is timeless), one Halo Reach modder has finally made the weapon a reality.

The gaming community is filled with talented players willing to go the extra mile to bring the rest of us joy with their spectacular creations — just look at some of the fantastic Star Wars ship designs in Starfield. One such player is Redditor GashnorOfficial, who is the genius behind the new Xbox Series X rocket launcher mod in Halo Reach… but it’s not just the rocket launcher that is eye-catching in their video.

“Remember that meme of Phil Spencer holding a Series X like a rocket launcher? I made it a real thing in Halo Reach,” GashnorOfficial posted on Reddit (via GamesRadar+). The meme GashnorOfficial is referring to was shared on Reddit by Rose-Supreme a few years ago ahead of the launch of Halo Infinite. “I fully custom-modeled the Series X yesterday in Blender from scratch.”

The video is full of all manner of oddities and starts out with the player character randomly carrying a cardboard box filled with shotguns before ditching it for the Xbox Series X rocket launcher. When the launcher is fired, large Xbox spheres bubble out of the explosion, and then it’s reloaded using Halo Reach Xbox 360 discs. It’s a pretty cool mod, that’s for sure, topped off by the fact that GashnorOfficial has even made custom weapon icons in the top right of the screen, and has the rocket launcher wielded by a Grunt.

“The Grunt in armor is using the armor made by Marcus Lehto, his Mark V remaster released for free for Halo’s 20th anniversary,” GashnorOfficial says. Cosplaying grunts seem to be the modder’s specialty, as Gashnor has overhauled the entire Halo Reach campaign with cosplaying grunts!
