Disney Dreamlight Valley confirms multiplayer, new free characters, and paid expansion

The Disney Dreamlight Valley team has dropped a lot of news for the game, with a new roadmap, confirmation of upcoming new characters, and new details about the game’s paid expansion, A Rift In Time.

Disney Dreamlight Valley’s showcase revealed a lot about the game’s future, but also shared more info on the game’s next major update, which will include the multiplayer mode, new character Jack Skellington, and more.

A Disney Dreamlight Valley update arrives on December 5, bringing Jack Skellington from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, as well as the long-awaited multiplayer mode. “It was only a matter of time before the community’s love of pumpkins caught the attention of the Pumpkin King himself… From investigating the secrets of Dreamlight to creating a new holiday for the Valley, you’ll want to keep an eye on the Valley’s most moody biome for hints of his arrival,” Gameloft says. The multiplayer mode will let you and three friends head to each other’s Valleys and Gameloft confirms that “the multiplayer mode will continue to evolve over time, as new ways to interact with your friends are added in future updates.”

December 5 also sees the arrival of Disney Dreamlight Valley’s paid expansion, A Rift In Time. December 5 is a big date for the game all-round, as it’s when Disney Dreamlight Valley leaves early access — but not as a free-to-play game. We don’t yet have a price for A Rift In Time, but it will feature a main story split across three acts, with the first act, Welcome to Eternity Isle, available on December 5. The second act, The Spark of Imagination, follows next spring, and the last act, Treasures of Time, arrives in summer 2024. The expansion has three new biomes — Ancient’s Landing, Glittering Dunes, and the Wild Tangle — but what’s most interesting is the characters included in the expansion: the first act alone will include Jafar, Rapunzel, and Eve. “Two more new friends” will follow in the next acts, and the main story also involves Jafar.

Then we have an updated roadmap with the new free content coming to the game. 2024 will bring Mike Wazowski and Sulley and the Monsters Inc realm, while early spring 2024 will bring “a vibrant new villager.” Late spring hints at Mulan content with a new Realm Door and the words, “You don’t find a Realm like this every Dynasty.” Then, in summer 2024, we’ll see Tiana arrive in the Valley.

It’s a lot of new content, and it’ll be interesting to see how Gameloft handles the transition to remaining a paid game rather than going free-to-play. We’ll keep an eye out for more news.
