Servers for two Xbox 360 FromSoftware games to close in March
A post on the Dark Souls website reads: “As of Sunday, March 31, 2024, online services for Dark Souls II (PS3, Xbox 360) will be terminated due to deterioration of the game servers.” According to the developer this means that “asynchronous online elements such as shades, bloodstains, and messages” as well as “multiplayer elements such as co-op play, invasions, and dueling” will no longer be available once the server closure strikes. Naturally, you will still be able to play offline.
As for the Dark Souls II achievements, none are flagged as online only, so you don’t need to worry about any discontinued achievements here. However, co-op does make the game easier to complete, so you may want to get the 1,000G ticked off with the help of a pal before the server closure.
In a separate post about Armored Core, FromSoftware said, “As of Sunday, March 31, 2024, online services for Armored Core: Verdict Day (PS3, Xbox 360) will be terminated due to deterioration of the game servers.” When the servers are shut down, you will no longer have access to World Mode, Mercenary features, Territory Customisation, Ranking, Team Menus, and “other features tied to online elements.” The Soldier Model DLC will also be unavailable to purchase from that date.
This also means that some Armored Core: Verdict Day achievements will no longer be available to unlock. In total 23 achievements from the third-person shooter will be discontinued. If you are thinking about going for the 1,000G in Armored Core: Verdict Day, a completion will likely take you between 60 and 80 hours — you will also need to download Compatability Pack 1 to play online.
Both Dark Souls II and Armored Core: Verdict Day are not backwards compatible, so you will need an Xbox 360 to play these games.
In other server closures news, servers for several Xbox 360 Ubisoft games have come back online (though they likely won’t be staying up for long), and there are four Xbox server closures planned for January.
