Bioshock-style horror game Close to the Sun joins Xbox Game Pass today

Players with an Xbox Game Pass or PC Game Pass subscription can now play Close to the Sun on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC, while Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members can also stream it via Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Close to the Sun is a first-person horror adventure game set in the 19th Century aboard Nicola Tesla’s fictional Helios, a colossal vessel designed for scientific exploration. Aboard the mysterious ship, you’ll need to use your wits to solve puzzles, unlock secret areas, and uncover the fate of Helios’ inhabitants.

Surviving the hellish creatures waiting for you aboard the Helios is your priority as Rose Archer, a journalist searching for her sister. Much like Alien: Isolation and Outlast, you’re defenseless in Close to the Sun, so you’ll need to run, hide, and outsmart your pursuers as you navigate your way through the huge vessel. The visual styling is very reminiscent of Bioshock with its art deco decor, though it plays very differently.

It’s 1897. Deep in international waters, the Helios stands still. Dark clouds loom overhead as unforgiving waves crash against the hull. Colossal effigies of gold, decorated with magnificent finery, stretch as far as the eye can see.

Born of Nikola Tesla’s vision, the Helios serves as a haven for the greatest scientific minds. An unbound utopia for research, independent from state and isolated from the gaze of society. Free to push the boundaries of matter and time.

Journalist Rose Archer steps aboard the Helios in search of her sister Ada. She quickly discovers not all is as it seems. Grand halls stand empty. The stench of rotting flesh lingers in the air. Silence. A single word is painted across the entrance… QUARANTINE!

You can play Close to the Sun via Xbox Game Pass on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, and Xbox Cloud Gaming today.

We’re yet to hear about the other games coming to Game Pass in January. However, players did receive another message about Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate 2: Enhanced Editions joining the service earlier today, so maybe we’ll finally see them join later this month.

We do know that four games will leave Xbox Game Pass in the first half of January, though, so you’ll need to be quick to finish them!
