Here are the games being added to Game Pass in January – WGB, Home of AWESOME Reviews

Now that we are well and truly into the New Year, it’s time to take a look at what new games are going to be hitting Game Pass. Microsoft has revealed what will be added to the service this January, and it’s a solid list featuring two substantial titles.

First up, Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla will hit the service on January 9 for console, PC and Cloud streaming. Compared to the most recent entry (Assassin’s Creed: Mirage) in the long-running franchise, AC: Valhalla is a monster of a game featuring 100+ hours of content. My own experience with it back when it first launched was hugely disappointing due to a game-breaking bug stopping me from finishing it, making the 30+ hours I had already put into it feel pointless. I never could bring myself to go back and restart the game, but perhaps now that it’s on Game Pass I might just go finish up my Viking adventure.

This is also the second big Ubisoft title to arrive on Game Pass within the last two months. December saw Far Cry 6 hit the service. Perhaps this has something to do with Microsoft selling the streaming rights to all of their Activision-Blizzard games to Ubisoft? After all, Ubisoft has its own subscription service.

The other big-hitter for the month is Resident Evil 2 Remake. First released in 2019, Resident Evil 2 got rave reviews, holding an impressive score of 92 on Opencritic based on over 200 reviews.

Games being added to Game Pass this January

  • Close to the Sun (Cloud, Console, and PC) – January 3
  • Hell Let Loose (Cloud, Xbox Series, and PC) – January 4
  • Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (Cloud, PC, and Xbox Series X|S) – January 9
  • Super Mega Baseball 4 (Cloud, Console, and PC) EA Play – January 11
  • We Happy Few (Cloud, Console, and PC) – January 11
  • Resident Evil 2 (Cloud, Console, and PC) – January 16
  • Those Who Remain (Cloud, Console, and PC) – January 16

But we must also wave goodbye to a few games leaving the service. Here they are:

January 5:

  • Grand Theft Auto V (Cloud and Console)

January 15:

  • Garden Story (Cloud, Console, and PC)
  • MotoGP 22 (Cloud, Console, and PC)
  • Persona 4 Golden (Cloud, Console, and PC)
  • Persona 3 Portable (Cloud, Console, and PC)

Are any new games being added to Game Pass Core?

Sadly no new games will be added to Microsoft’s Game Pass Core this month. If you aren’t aware, Game Pass Core is the lowest tier of the existing subscriptions that Xbox offers, giving you access to 35 games to play rather than the full Game Pass Library.
