Terror at Oakheart appears in February
The 80s was really the decade of the slasher movie. Now, I’m not saying that other decades haven’t spawned some pretty scary murderous villains, (I’m looking at you Ghostface,) but this decade takes the biscuit. They got so numerous that they started trying to kill each other! From a protagonist’s perspective, you just didn’t go anywhere with your friends, and places such as holiday camps were an absolute no-go. Also running, if you can’t do it, don’t. The 80s had a lot of nasty running incidents that usually involved falling over literally nothing and getting people killed by other people who could stay on their feet. What has any of this got to do with anything? Well, apart from being a fun exercise in reminiscing about one of my favorite periods it brings us nicely to Terror at Oakheart. The game we’ll be looking at today.
Terror at Oakheart is a side-scrolling adventure that pays homage to the slasher movies of the 80s and 90s. This potentially grizzly affair is due to hit your PC screens on the 27th of February. Of course, if you can’t wait that long, I’m more than happy to point you in the direction of the free demo that can be found here.
Taking the role of one of a cast of unique characters you’ll be taking a trip to the town of Oakheart. Here you’ll be introduced to Teddy, a murderous psychopath who is stalking the area doing what murderous psychopaths do best. As the body count rises you must uncover the secrets behind this masked menace and the town as a whole.
You’ll be able to step into the shoes of Eric, Ethan, Rose, Tyler, and others. All of these unfortunate individuals are destined to meet their demise at the hands of the town killer. It will be up to you to decide who will be lucky enough to survive the onslaught. Don’t expect everything to be as it seems, though. Teddy is the puppet of a Lovecraftian beast, adding even more intrigue to the unfolding events.
In Terror at Oakheart you will move through a series of sets throughout the town. These include Teddy’s house, the nearby police station, a ranger station, camp areas, and others. As you explore these locations you’ll discover more about the sadistic killer and the town of Oakheart, in what is sure to be a horrifying adventure.
If you think watching a cast of interesting characters getting sliced up by a masked lunatic is going to be a good time Terror at Oakheart is likely going to be the game for you. This may well be the game for us too, so be prepared to hear more about this creepy-sounding slasher adventure in the coming weeks. We wouldn’t let you go into this all alone, now would we?
