Retronauts Episode 615: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
Did Sephiroth…record this?
In the annals of history, 2020 qualifies as one of the worst years on record, but Square Enix did deliver an overdue remake of Final Fantasy VII—or at least part of a remake, since the 1997 version was massive and no single modern release could possibly contain all of its bountiful secrets.
Four years later, Square Enix has reached the second installment of this ongoing project, launching Final Fantasy VII Rebirth this past February. Just as we did in 2020, we’ve got a new podcast to examine this very new video game and how it relates to the original. So please, enjoy Bob Mackey, Henry Gilbert, and Will Hughes talking about how many hours they pumped into this adventure and what percentage of that time actually advanced the story.
Description: It’s taken nearly four years, but it’s finally here: part two of Square-Enix’s ambitious trilogy of Final Fantasy VII remakes. And guess what? It’s HUGE! While Remake proved the viability of a modern Final Fantasy VII reimagining, Rebirth absolutely blows the doors off with an open-world take on this classic RPG. But does this chunk of the original game’s disc one make a smooth transition into a 100-hour journey? On this episode of Retronauts, join Bob Mackey, Will Hughes, and Henry Gilbert as the crew discusses the remake that’s now taken up a significant portion of their lives.
