Sly Cooper is kicking raccoon butt, making it the biggest PS Plus Premium game to date – WGB
Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus seems to be doing very well for itself according to a new report.
Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus hit PlayStation Plus Premium a short while ago as part of a wave of PS2 titles using a new emulator. I reviewed it, and found that not only is the emulation solid but Sly Cooper also sticks kicks raccoon ass in 2024.
It seems other people think the same thing, too. According to the folk at True Trophies, they used their partnership with GameInsights to analyse 3.1 million active PSN accounts to figure out that Sly Cooper is now the number 1 most played PlayStation Premium game, beating out previous record holder The Legend of Dragoon.
Based on the data provided, True Trophies believes Sly Cooper and his gang of criminal masterminds managed to draw in 2.5% more players than The Legend of Dragoon did in its launch week. Not a massive margin, but a win is a win.
They went on to say that Tomb Raider Legend, which launched alongside Sly Cooper, has also done well, claiming 3rd place behind The Legend of Dragoon, but that Sly saw 39.66% more players than it managed. Keep in mind that Tomb Raider Legend is much more expensive than Sly Cooper, though.
Another point of comparison comes from the ratings: 7.2k players have dropped in to leave a rating for Sly Cooper’s first game, giving him a full five stars in the process. Tomb Raider Legend has only drawn in 1.4k in ratings.
As a way to provide some context, True Trophies did point out that there’s a big gap between a successful Premium game and a successful PS Plus game overall. According to their data, of all the games added to PS Plus and Premium in 2024 so far, Sly Cooper ranks 8th behind Animal Well and ahead of Dredge. Dave the Diver holds first place, with Red Red Redemption 2 in second.
It’s probably not going to be enough Sony to bring back Sly Cooper for a new game, in other words, but its relative success will hopefully mean we get to see Sly 2 and Sly 3 added to the service in the coming months. I cannot wait.
