Scholar’s Mate escapes to console

I’m not sure exactly when escape rooms became a thing but they’re massively popular. I’m not sure how sane paying someone to lock you in a room in the hopes of being able to get out again is, but it’s definitely a thing. As many gamers, (myself included,) don’t like going outside, much less having to cooperate with other people bringing this format to our gaming screens is a great idea. This is where the game on the slate for today comes in. We’re going to be looking at Scholar’s Mate. This escape conundrum is due for a console release in the coming weeks and to add the icing to the cake it’s a horror. Excellent. We’re back in my favorite genre again.

Scholar’s Mate is due to appear on consoles on July 4th. The consoles we’re referring to are the Xbox Series, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 and 5 so most of us can get involved. These console releases are said to allow for a level of immersion and tension that should be right up the alley of any horror fans amongst you. I’ll go into this in more detail in a moment but this level of tension will also add a new layer to the escape room format that will make puzzle-solving an interesting task.

In Scholar’s Mate, you’ll be taking on the role of Judith, a lady who had fallen prey to the sinister machinations of Eddie. This crazed lunatic has kidnapped you and locked you in an old and sinister abandoned psychiatric hospital. Your task, if you have any care for your own safety is to escape. This, as always, is going to be very much easier said than done.

The first thing to note about Scholar’s Mate is that it’s a first-person game. This might be an ideal perspective when it comes to helping you solve the tricky and nefarious puzzles you’ll find in your escape. The downside to this is that you will have Eddie to contend with. He will be watching your every move with psychotic glee. He can see as well as hear you. If you run, he’ll know where you are. Your flashlight will be your friend, but will also enable him to track you. You’re going to have to be more than puzzle-smart if you are to evade him, and his finding you will most certainly spell your end.

If you like the idea of a survival escape room that you don’t need to leave the house for you’ll be able to indulge next week. You might want to warm up the old gray cells in advance. If the puzzles don’t get you, Eddie most certainly will.
