It’s been 8 years since we first played – and subsequently reviewed – Agatha Christie – The ABC Murders. But now it gets some serious optimisation for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. 

In Agatha Christie – The ABC Murders we see the world famous Hercule Poirot return for one of his most famous of investigations. Adapted from the classic novel to play out as an adventure and investigation affair, Agatha Christie – The ABC Murders has you taking on the role of Poirot, working through a variety of environments in a third person perspective. 

It’s here where the private detective finds himself up against a mysterious opponent; one who goes by the name of ‘ABC’. And should you dive in to this gaming experience, will discover that your intelligence will never have been so challenged, left to scour crime scenes in various cities set in beautiful surroundings across the United Kingdom.

The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series versions of Agatha Christie – The ABC Murders offer the option to play in 4K at 30 FPS or 1080p at 60 FPS, and feature various visual enhancements for an improved immersive experience.

Wherever you play, the idea is to leave no stone unturned when it comes to cross examinations and deadly puzzles, observing, questioning and exploreing everything possible in order to make the smartest deductions and understand the murderer’s plans!

• EXAMINATIONS – The player can collect information by examining suspects and paying attention to what they say, how they say it and how they feel.
• PUZZLES – The player will have to solve puzzles in order to obtain more clues.
• BRAIN DEDUCTIONS – Depending on the clues collected, the player will be able to make deductions and find out more about the murderer.
• TIMELINE- As the player draws conclusions and progresses through the story, he can use Poirot’s Timeline. This means that Hercule Poirot can build a timeline with all the relevant events revealed during the investigation.

Does it work? Well, our review of Agatha Christie – The ABC Murders on Xbox back in 2016 wasn’t particularly positive, feeling overpriced and a bit lucklustre. We’d suspect that the latter hasn’t been solved with the Series X|S and PlayStation 5 optimised version now available, but as for the former? Well, you’re looking at a £20.99 Xbox Store price tag. Doable?
