I’m hardly a connoisseur of the arcade scrolling shooting genre but even I have a fondness for the Darius series—pronounced “dah-rye-us” for the record. Even with my limited skillset it’s hard to encounter a massive arcade cabinet in the wild and resist plugging in enough coins to experience the spectacle firsthand.

Thankfully, we here at Retronauts know who to call for just such an occasion, so host Kevin Bunch flies in One Million Power’s Brian Clark and composer/hardware hobbyist Christa Lee for a deep dive into the small pond that is Darius. “Small pond,” see, because so many of the series’ massive monsters are shaped like fish!
