Doom and Doom II out now on Xbox Game Pass with new combined achievement list

New Doom and Doom II achievements are available, as new enhanced versions of the originals are out as a “single combined release” for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Game Pass, as well as for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch. Just in time, too, as our August section of upcoming Game Pass games was looking a little lonely. If you already owned Doom or Doom 2, you can get the new version via a free update, and you can get started with those Doom and Doom 2 achievements through the new Game Pass release now!

“Developed by id Software, and originally released in 1993, Doom pioneered and popularized the first-person shooter, setting a standard for all FPS games. The critically acclaimed sequel, Doom II, followed in 1994. Now the definitive, newly enhanced versions of Doom + Doom II are available in a single combined release,” Bethesda says, adding that “this definitive enhanced version is our biggest effort yet,” with the new Legacy of Rust episode, online cross-platform deathmatch and co-op, the new Deathmatch map pack, upgraded visuals, and more. You can see some of this reflected in the new achievement list below: there are 33 achievements worth a total of 1,000 Gamerscore, none of which are secret.

If you already owned either game, you can get a free upgrade for the new “combined” game. While Doom (1993) and Doom II (Classic) have now been removed from the Microsoft Store, you can still access the previous versions of these games, if already owned, from your library. It appears you can still play them through Game Pass, too. As for the new versions, you can play through Game Pass or buy the re-releases for $9.99/£7.99, and the supported resolutions and framerates are 1080p at 60 FPS for Xbox One, 4K at 60 FPS for Xbox One X, and 4K at 120 FPS for Xbox Series X|S.As for what’s included with the new versions: “Created in collaboration by individuals from id Software, Nightdive Studios, and MachineGames, Legacy of Rust is the newest episode for Doom, and the first official episode since Doom II to feature new demons and weapons.” It revolves around a base which the Union Aerospace Corporation lost to the Ones Beneath, and which, naturally, you’ll need to reclaim. Then there’s the id Vault, “enhanced” co-op with new rules, four-player split-screen multiplayer (with eight-player split-screen for Xbox Series X|S), online multiplayer across 43 Deatchmatch levels (boosted by the new Deathmatch map pack) and co-op episodes, cross-play multiplayer, upgrade visuals, “modern” controller support, and more.

As for what’s to come with the future of Doom, we’ve got Doom: The Dark Ages launching in 2025, although as it’s releasing for PS5 as well as Xbox Series X|S and PC, it doesn’t get a place on the list of upcoming Xbox exclusives.
