Auf Wiedersehen Monty – Silly Venture 2024 Summer Edition Atari XL/XE featuring an improved game engine

Way back in the 1980’s Gremlin Graphics released the very first Monty Mole game in the series for the ZX Spectrum and C64. This lovable character that looked like a cross between a human and a mole, star’d in his very own adventure as ‘ Wanted : Monty Mole ‘ , which from then on spawned a number of other famous sequels such as Monty on the Run and Auf Wiedersehen Monty. But today’s news is pretty special if you own an Atari XL/XE. As Retronics is bringing this game to the Atari XL/XE with an improved game engine!

And here’s the latest from the video description. “Auf Widersehen Monty” is a Jet Set Willy style chamber game. It was released in 1987 for virtually all popular 8-bit computers, except the Atari XL/XE (as was unfortunately often the case…). The Atari version is a reverse-engineered adaptation of the C-16, much like “Monty on the Run”. Compared to “Monty on the Run” (MotR), the game features an improved game engine. Works in high resolution text mode with 32 columns. There are about 20 chambers, and each of them has been individually colored. The sprites are also colorful, which is unique in this type of graphics mode!”

“The game also has colored pistons and coins. The chambers are not repeated, as was the case in “MotR”, and present different countries through which the mole “travels”. Rooms can now contain up to 4 software sprites plus Monty’s character (5 objects in total). Compared to MotR, the sprites are animated. AND FINALLY…….The music from the C-64 was ported over for the game, but the original music from the C-16 was also retained and can be played during the game”.

Currently the game only seems to be available to those that buy support tickets to the Silly Venture compo, so I’m hoping it will be available as a digital download at some point soon.
