SEGA survey gauges interest in more Yakuza games on Switch
All the way back in 2022, Ryu Ga Gotoku studio head Masayoshi Yokoyama spoke about the chances of bringing the Yakuza series to the Switch. After the series had an abysmal outing on Wii U, Nintendo fans were hoping the franchise would get another crack at things on a much more successful platform, but Yokoyama felt differently.
Back then, Yokoyama said the Yakuza series wasn’t a good fit for Switch due to its family-friendly image, especially in Japan. Yokoyama also said that the “underground” nature of the Yakuza series didn’t mesh well with the Switch, so it was pretty unlikely the series would come over. That’s why it was so surprising to learn of a Switch port for Yakuza Kiwami just a few months back.
With that title now available on Switch, Nintendo fans have proven their interest in the franchise, as Yokoyama has said that Yakuza Kiwami is “selling like hotcakes.” With sales comes the opportunity for more entries in the franchise, and it appears that SEGA is already considering taking those steps.
SEGA has kicked off a survey in Japan and it’s specifically looking to talk to those who picked up Yakuza Kiwami on Switch. The survey is 20 questions long, and as you’ll see by reading those questions below, it certainly seems like SEGA has at least a passing interest in bringing more Yakuza titles to Switch.
