Legacy of Kain – WGB
UPDATE: It appears that the Resistance games are in fact not emulated, but only playable via streaming like they were before. Reliable insider Wario64 has seemingly confirmed this fact on X. If this is the case, it’s frustrating that Sony has not mentioned this in their blog post.
Original Store: Sony has revealed this month’s lineup of new games hitting PlayStation Plus, and as has become the norm that includes a selection of older titles arriving on PlayStation Premium via emulation. Well, hopefully emulation.
The headliner is undoubtedly Resistance: Fall of Man from Insomniac Games. Released in 2006, Resistance is one of the PS3’s most successful games, selling around 2.5 million copies.
“Epic military action and unnerving tension blend together in PS3’s 2006 first-person shooter Resistance: Fall of Man, “says the official blurb on PlayStation blog. “Humanity faces annihilation as a relentless alien force known as the Chimera ravages Europe. Amidst the chaos, Nathan Hale emerges an unlikely hero, confronting unimaginable horrors while uncovering secrets that could change the course of the war.”
It will be joined by its sequel, Resistance 2, which launched in 2008
“Initially released in 2008 on PS3, Resistance 2 is the continuation of Insomniac Games’ science-fiction FPS saga. Now on American soil, the alien Chimera threatens Hale’s humanity in a gripping race against time to put a stop to the invasion. Once again at the forefront of humanity’s fight for survival, Nathan Hale must lead his squad through desperate missions, as new weapons and giant boss encounters increase the scale of the conflict to new heights.”
This is a major milestone for PlayStation as it has been notoriously difficult to emulate PS3 games in the past. Previously, the only way to play Resistance trilogy on PS4 was via streaming. However, people’s experiences with it tended to be poor side.
With the first two Resistance games appearing on Premium, presumably PlayStation has made a major breakthrough in emulating PS3 games, hopefully leading to many more marooned titles becoming playable.
However, in the interest of trying to be level-headed, nowhere in the blog post does it specifically state whether these games are actually being emulated. None of the previous classic PlayStation releases have specifically mentioned this fact either, and have in fact been emulated rather than streamed.
As first-party PlayStation games, both Resistance titles should also boast full trophy lists, although it was not specifically mentioned.
The Resistance titles will be complimented by Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen 2. These are undoubtedly joining the service to support the release of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered which arrives on December 10.
The games will be available on November 19. It’s unclear if they will be available for purchase separately, or only available to PlayStation Premium subscribers.
