Mufasa: The Lion King actor laments an infamous stage in The Lion King on SNES
Those of us who grew up in the 16-bit era remember certain games for standout moments. Sometimes those moments were amazing, like Donkey Kong Country’s first minecart level. Other times those moments were nothing but traumatic, and that’s where The Lion King comes into play.
The Lion King on SNES/Genesis remains a sore spot in many minds to this day, as the game’s giraffe level seemed absolutely brutal at the time. Back then, countless kids got to that stage and never saw anything past it, as the challenge of jumping between giraffes and swinging around on monkeys proved incredibly difficult. Those who’ve revisited the game as an adult have learned that it wasn’t a lack of skills that hurt them as a kid; the level really is that tough.
The latest to look back on The Lion King’s 16-bit outing with some disdain is Kelvin Harrison Jr., the actor portraying Taka in the upcoming Mufasa: The Lion King. In the clip below, you can see Kelvin reminisce about this days playing that game and butting heads with the infamous level. That said, he seems to still have some fond memories of his time with the game overall.
