dbrand is the latest accessory manufacturer to tease Switch’s successor…maybe (UPDATE)
Accessory manufacturer dbrand has had quite a cantankerous history with Nintendo. Not that long ago, the company came to blows with the Big N over their unofficial Zelda-themed Switch decals, which also happened to share an unsavory message directed at Nintendo’s legal team, reading “go f$@% yourself lawyers.” This showed dbrand’s feelings towards Nintendo, and also revealed how the company is willing to poke the bear in order to stir up attention.
That brings us to today, where dbrand has shared a look at a case they have it the works, and the company seems to be hinting that the product is for the Switch’s successor. You can see an image of the case above, but they’ve also shared the 3D render below.
This video was shared alongside a dbrand website for a product called the “Switch 2 Killswitch.” dbrand has obviously put all this together in order to hop on the recent trend of supposed Switch successor leaks from various accessory manufacturers, but dbrand is the first Western company to do so. Most interesting in all of this is the appearance of what looks to be a new button on the right Joy-Con alongside the home button. As to what that button does, your guess is as good as ours. The one thing we won’t have to guess about is Nintendo’s response to all of this, as whether it’s legit or another fake to drum up attention, the Big N won’t be happy either way.
UPDATE:In a statement to Insider-Gaming, dbrand’s CEO Adam Ijaz was asked if the above pictures/video show off the actual design of the Switch successor, and he flat-out said that’s indeed what we’re seeing.
“That is correct: it is the Switch 2 with our Killswitch case on it (similar in principle to our Killswitch for the Steam Deck, ROG Ally, and ROG Ally X).
