Nintendo cuts ties with Japanese TV network embroiled in sex scandal
While Nintendo might publish games rating from E for Everyone to Mature, there’s no doubt the company maintains a family-friendly image. It’s something Nintendo has valued since day one, and their latest move shows that they’re very much to keep that image pristine.
Japanese TV network Fuji TV is currently in the midst of a sex scandal involving Masahiro Nakai, and actor, host, and former leader of the boy band SMAP. It’s reported that Nakai sexually assaulted a woman, and then paid her $578k in an out-of-court settlement. Apparently this assault took place at a dinner for Fuji TV employees, including a company executive. Nakai has sine apologized for the assault, but the damage is obviously done.
50 different companies have pulled their advertising from Fuji TV, and Nintendo is now amongst them. It’s quite obvious why so many companies are eager to withdrawn their support from Fuji TV, and with such a mass exodus of advertising dollars, the network’s fate is no doubt in question.
