X-Out: Resurfaced digital and physical edition pre-orders available

The alien terror won’t come from above, it’ll come from the deep. And it’ll rise on February 20th when ININ, Kritzelkratz 3000, and Ziggurat release the Amiga-era shoot-’em-up X-Out: Resurfaced in digital and physical editions.
Back in 1990, the original X-Out “..dazzled its players with ominous underwater worlds, a synth-laden soundtrack from composer legend Chris Huelsbeck, and an innovative shop system, bringing variety, flexibility, and a high degree of replayability to the classic horizontal shoot ‘em up experience.” 35 years later, the game has been rebuilt from the ground up for release on modern consoles.
For X-Out: Resurfaced we didn’t just want to replicate the original but actually capture its spirit, so we added a – for the era – typical trainer menu: Knowing how unforgiving the original was and the remake still is, we provide some helpful cheats while giving a little nod to the home computer “scene”.
Another “absolute must” addition over the original is the new 2-player co-op (Steam Remote Play supported). There is nothing better than gaining an edge on the deep sea enemies by enlisting a trusty friend.
Finally, for the shoot ‘em up veterans and X-Out pros, Mirror mode will flip the script and provide a fresh new challenge.
X-Out: Resurfaced will feature:
- faithfully transported sprite work as well as completely new particle and lighting effects
- cover art with work from co-creator Ogan Kandemiroglu, brother of the late Celal Kandemiroglu who provided the iconic cover of the game’s original version
- a synth soundtrack completely remixed and greatly enhanced by composer legend Chris Hülsbeck (the original soundtracks of the C64 and Amiga versions are available, too)
- a modernized and improved shop system in which players can pick from pre-configured load-outs or build their fleet and ships from scratch
- 2-player couch co-op
- Mirror Mode!
X-Out: Resurfaced is available for digital pre-order at the discounted rate of $17.99, but fans and collectors may first want to check out ININ’s 35th Anniversary Special Edition, which contains:
- A physical copy of game
- The original soundtrack composed and remixed by the legendary Chris Hülsbeck on CD (try a little sample)
- A colorful history art-book featuring Interviews with the original Rainbow Arts Developers and helpful in-depth tips about the ships and weapons for new X-Out cadets (have a peak at that, too)
