Assassin’s Creed Syndicate
Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is fun but isn’t a perfect entry into Ubisoft’s open-world action-adventure strand of the series. I think you can pin that down to the fact that most people (including me) had much more affinity for assassin-focused Evie Frye with two protagonists in the lead role. Meanwhile, combat-heavy gangster Jacob Frye can just miss the hay bale on the way down for all I care.
Put that aside I think Syndicate’s Victorian-era London is a really fun place to explore with your zipline, even if that does reduce reliance on parkour. The assassination missions on offer here are also superb, with loads of different options. Honestly, I’d take this style of AC game any day over the RPGs (and whatever Mirage was). For the price of a coffee, I’d buy it!

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum
Now, I am in no way saying buy The Lord of the Rings: Gollum because it’s good (it’s genuinely woeful and one of the worst games I’ve ever played), but the morbidly curious among you may be interested in picking up this one while it’s cheap just to marvel in all of its awful glory.
I’ve played through Gollum, and I have no idea how someone could mishandle the Lord of the Rings IP so badly — you have to see it to believe it. The platforming is an abysmal experience, with Gollum’s jump feeling unreliable and inconsistent. The visuals are sub-par, and the voice acting is possibly some of the worst I’ve ever heard in a game. It was so bad it ended up being quite humorous. I never quite finished Gollum — I think I lost progress on a level and never went back — but it truly was a spectacle of the worst kind. It’s kind of like one of those movies that’s so bad it’s good, but it takes 15 agonizing hours to finish rather than 90 minutes.
If you’re curious about Lord of The Rings: Gollum and up for a real challenge with the achievements (good luck completing this game without dying), then I think it’s just about worth $8.99 / £7.49 / €8.99. You’ll certainly get a big TrueAchievement Score boost from the completion if you manage it.

Dying Light
With Dying Light: The Beast releasing later this year, now is a great time to get reacquainted with Kyle Crane’s exploits in Haran in the first Dying Light. Techland’s action-horror game is one of the finest open-world zombie games ever made, offering a great blend of exploration and intense combat that’s sure to get your heart pounding.
It’s great fun, and the world is filled with several different types of monstrosities that range in difficulty, with the most brutal of them all, the Volatiles, only stalking their prey at night. While things can feel somewhat relaxed during the day, Techland achieved greatness during Dying Light’s nighttime hours, creating an adrenaline-fuelled thrill ride as you put your parkour skills to the test in an attempt to outrun the bloodthirsty mutants chasing you.
This version only includes the base game, so you’ll need to splash out for the DLC packs if you want to go for the full completion, but it’s a great start if you’re yet to dip your toes into the world.
