EA teases major overhaul for Apex Legends down the road

Apex Legends came out in 2019, grabbing its piece of the pie in the battle royal space. The game has been chugging along since and still woos millions of players every month, but popularity has certainly dropped off in recent years. Thankfully, EA has some big plans to change that.

While EA wasn’t willing to get into specifics, company CEO Andrew Wilson did tease that big things are in the works for Apex Legends. Not only did the CEO mention a “meaningful update,” he also said the team behind the game remains “incredibly committed.”

You can read Wilson’s full comments on the path forward for Apex Legends below.

“The trajectory of the business of that franchise has not been heading in the direction that we have wanted for some time. We do believe there will be a time where we need to do a more meaningful update of Apex as a broad game experience and the team is diligently working on that.

Our expectation is that Apex will be one of those franchises [that keep growing for years] and that some time, on a longer term time horizon, there will be an even bigger, more meaningful update to that broader game experience, an Apex 2.0, if you will. This will not be the final incarnation of Apex. The team remains incredibly committed.”
