Square Enix says Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake sold better than expected

The Final Fantasy series always had its fans around the world, but it didn’t have its breakthrough moment until Final Fantasy VII. That was the installment that really caught the attention of the worldwide audience and propelled the series to where it is today. Unfortunately, Dragon Quest is still waiting to have that moment, but that doesn’t mean there’s no small victories to celebrate.

Back in December 2024, Square Enix announced that Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake had sold more than 2 million units worldwide. We’re not sure how much higher that figure has climbed since then, but Square Enix had more good news to share about the game’s sales in their most recent financial report.

According to Square Enix’s Q3 2025 fiscal report, Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake had stronger sales than they initially expected, which led to a considerable boost in their operating income. Hopefully we soon get a new sales figure in terms of units sold, but at the very least, it seems like Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is making more headway than Square Enix anticipated.
