John Wick creator writing for a Sifu live-action movie (UPDATE)

John Wick creator Derek Kolstad is already tied up with one videogame to live-action movie adaptation in Streets of Rage, but now he’s doing the same for a more recent game property.

Kolstad has confirmed that he’s writing a live-action film adaptation of Sifu, the martial arts-based game that just hit the Switch a few weeks back. Kolstad and the media company Story Kitchen are working with Sifu developer and publisher Sloclap to bring the project together.

Obviously the project is quite early at this point, so there’s no release date or story details at this time. Still though, the attachment of Kolstad to this project certainly paints a rosy picture for the future.

UPDATE: The Sifu movie trucks along, as Netflix has confirmed that they’re picking up the movie, and it will be produced by John Wick veteran Chad Stahelski’s 87Eleven. T.S. Nowlin (The Maze Runner) is writing the script, with Dmitri M. Johnson and Mike Goldberg from Story Kitchen producing. From 87Eleven, Stahelski, Jason Spitz, and Alex Young are producing as well.
