Game Drops explained

The Tinies (miniature animated versions of Mojang Studios’ Vu Bui, Agnes Larsson, and Jens ‘Jeb’ Bergensten) made a grand return! This time, with a mission to explain the plan behind Minecraft’s upcoming content releases in simple terms. Here’s another quick attempt: We’re releasing more features more frequently. These releases are called “Game Drops”. And because we’re releasing features more often, we’re also broadcasting not one, but two Minecraft LIVE shows per year! Actually, it’s probably better to watch the Tinies explain it…

Spring to Life!

Spring to Life is our first game drop of the year, coming to all platforms on March 25. The drop brings new life to the Overworld. We’re adding warm and cold variants of some of our classic mobs, new ambient features like the glittering firefly bush, falling leaves, and whispers of sand plus even more reasons to explore near and far! We hope this update provides plenty of opportunities to make your Overworld travels and builds more immersive than ever.

We gather a handful of our game drop developers, ask them loads of questions, then edit the footage into this delightful segment full of developer insight. This part includes cute animals (real and Minecraftified) and a human imitating various wolf calls. We’re pulling out all the stops this time around.

Element Animation’s latest masterpiece

There’s nothing quite like a fresh Element Animation video to inspire, overwhelm, and slightly confuse our viewers. So yes, of course we included one in this edition of Minecraft LIVE. Follow a wandering trader as they explore the new features of our Spring to Life game drop. Explaining exactly what’s going on in this part of the show is an impossible task so please watch the segment and make your own call!

Exclusive movie content and our upcoming in-game Live Event

A Minecraft Movie is almost here! In fact, most of you can watch it in just a couple of weeks’ time when it premieres on April 4. We’re joined by Emma Myers (who plays Natalie in the movie) as she shares some of her experiences on-set and introduces an exclusive clip. Are you keen to buy tickets right now? Here’s a handy link.

Emma also shares news of our upcoming in-game Live Event where you get to play mini-games inspired by the movie and save Midport village from a piglin attack. The event will be accessible from March 25 until April 7 on all Bedrock Edition platforms; complete all the challenges and you’ll be awarded with an exclusive cape that’ll unlock in both editions of Minecraft! We’ll be sharing more details on this Live Event on March 25! Minecraft.net is the place to be!

A first look at Vibrant Visuals

How do you upgrade the look of Minecraft without messing up 15 years of design? We think we’ve worked it out. Our developers have been hard at work on a new graphical set of enhancements to Minecraft. We’re calling it Vibrant Visuals.

We show off the visual upgrade in full effect during this segment. Sunlight shining through trees, reflecting off pumpkins, and piercing through the depths of the ocean. We also feature the new pixelated shadows, much-improved water effects, and more!

This is a must-watch part of the show that might just change the way you look at your worlds forever. We’re planning to bring Vibrant Visuals to Java sometime in the future but it will first be available on compatible Bedrock devices in the coming months.

The dried ghast, ghastling, happy ghast, and locator bar

Our second game drop of 2025 will be something special. First, we introduce the dried ghast – a new block you’ll find in the Nether. Then we explain how you can bring it back to the Overworld an re-hydrate it into one of our cutest additions in some time – the ghastling!

But it doesn’t stop there. Eventually ghastlings will grow into happy ghasts – a new, friendly version of the Nether-dwelling ghast you might already know. But there’s more! You can put a harness on your happy ghast, mount up, and fly around your world with up to three friends on-board! You can even build from the top of the happy ghast, making tall structures and those awe-inspiring sky builds a little bit more accessible for Survival Mode players. This update brings new mechanics, a new level of cute, and a new perspective on the Overworld.

We’re extremely excited to bring the dried ghast, ghastling, and happy ghast to Minecraft – and they’ll be available for testing soon.

We also touch on the new Player Locator bar in this segment. This new UI feature will help you find other players in your worlds. The Player Locator bar is already in testing; find out more about this feature here!

The Deep Dig after show

In true Minecraft LIVE tradition, we lead straight into an after show where we dig deeper into some of the content we’ve just announced. We’ve decided to name this part of the show “The Deep Dig” for reasons that should be obvious if you just read the previous sentence.

We’re joined by extra special guests, Snifferish and Emma this time around, and showcase the features of Spring to Life, take a ride on a happy ghast, and play through one of the challenges features in the upcoming A Minecraft Movie Live Event.

The Deep Dig also stars the equally special Gustav Höglund, Felix Jones, Jens Bergensten, and Agnes Larsson, as well as host Vu Bui who does his very best to keep everything on track as some questionable happy ghast piloting threatens to descend The Deep Dig into abject chaos.

We hope you are excited about what’s coming to Minecraft in the near future and looking forward to watching A Minecraft Movie! See you at the next Minecraft LIVE!
