Preview: Post Trauma – Surreal and Nightmarish Survival Horror

Surreal and decrepit environments, grotesque and terrifying monsters, survival by any means necessary – sound familiar? Perhaps it’s all the trauma from 90s survival horror classics like Resident Evil and Silent Hill getting at you. You can relive all that and more in the upcoming horror title from Red Soul Games and Raw Fury, Post Trauma.
Train conductor Roman wakes up from a panic attack to find himself trapped in a surreal, psychological dimension. The world he’s in presents him with bizarre environments, which are stalked by nightmarish creatures, ready to inflict untold horrors on him. To survive, he’ll have to use both his wits to navigate and solve puzzles, and his dexterity to take down enemies or avoid them altogether.

Post Trauma takes after genre staples and utilizes fixed camera angles in a 3D world, essentially hearkening to the genre’s claustrophobic roots. This being a modern game, however, the environments are no longer pre-rendered, but rather, dynamic and viscerally realized with Unreal Engine 5.
As Roman explores the hellscape he finds himself in, he’ll come across a number of weapons to defend himself with against cruel and terrifying monstrosities. The game is described as a ‘Puzzle Horror’ game first and foremost, though, and the game’s Steam page even suggests keeping pad and paper ready to piece together its environmental mysteries.
You’ll have to figure out how to progress by finding critical tools and exploring the seemingly unrelated nightmare-scapes you find yourself in, all while avoiding or fighting monsters in an unsettling, traumatising setting.
Post Trauma is the debut game from Red Soul Games, an indie studio based in Valencia, Spain. The game started off as a self-funded ‘passion project’, but has since been picked up by prolific indie publisher Raw Fury. You might know them from such games as Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley, American Arcadia, Cassette Beasts, Norco, and Sable.
The game’s impressive production values are matched by a fully voice acted cast. Roman himself is voiced by veteran actor Togo Igawa, known for his BAFTA-nominated performance as the narrator of Total War: Shogun 2, while other voices include Autumn Ivy and Hyoie O’Grady. Scoring the game’s soundtrack is horror music specialist Nicolas Gasparini, who also goes by Myuu.
Post Trauma may have been heavily inspired by PS2 series, but it’s a thoroughly modern game that you can play on either PC, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X/S. It’s scheduled for release at the end of this month, i.e. on March 31st, 2025.
The game is fully voiced only in English, but will also feature text localizations in German, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, and both the Spain and Latin America varieties of Spanish.
