Did You Know Gaming dives into the SuFami Turbo

The Super Nintendo had all kinds of accessories that never left Japan. Things like the Satellaview were incredibly unique additions for the Super Famicom that aimed to provide players with fresh experiences through state-of-the-art tech. Chances are you’ve heard about that peripheral, but there’s another device that is just as impressive that also remained locked in Japan.

The latest episode of Did You Know Gaming takes a look at the SuFami Turbo, a Super Famicom accessory from Bandai that released in 1996. This device went into the Super Famicom cartridge slot, but it also had two cartridge slots of its own. Users would then buy game carts to slot in, and the carts in each slot could communicate with one another to share data.

The SuFami saw a total of 13 games released, and 9 of them could connect with one another. It’s and undeniably interesting idea, but it didn’t end up finding an audience due to how late it launched in the Super Famicom’s life. At least now the tech’s memory can live on through this latest DYKG mini-doc.
