Toki was an awesome arcade shooter platformer that was released way back in 1989 by a designer by the name of Akira Sakuma for systems such as the NES, Sega Mega Drive, Atari Lynx, Atari ST, Amiga & Commodore 64. In it you played as an enhanced Ape transformed from a Human that could shoot energy balls from his mouth defeating strange creatures and finally an evil Wizard. Well If you remember this truly great game, youβll be pleased to know that at some point in the near future, youβll be able to play a remastered version which is still in development for the C64 by the Remastered Team!
While we have mentioned Toki Remastered before much to the delight of the C64 community, hereβs what the Facebook page says about the game. βAfter months of intense pixel pushing, Iβm proud to show the complete remake of Level 1, now with fully redesigned backgrounds and sprites! From the lush mountain scenery to the iconic ground pattern and the chunky vine tangles, everything has been reworked to stay true to the arcade original, while optimizing for both CRTs and modern displays. The limitations of the original C64 version (only 91 unique 2Γ2 tiles and a 256-character map) made this a serious challenge, but Iβm thrilled with the final result. This is the version of Level 1 Iβve always seen in my headβnow finally realβ.
