In just about every way conceivable, BRAVELY DEFAULT FLYING FAIRY HD Remaster will be leagues ahead of the original 3DS release. Framerate, resolution, quality of life features and so much more will make for a serious improvement over the original title, but there is one small area where the 3DS version might have an edge.
In a recent breakdown of features from Square Enix, we learned about the “Encounter Rate Settings.” The details mention that players “can set the rate of random enemy encounters at 50% intervals to anywhere from 50% to 200%.” It’s this wording that has caused fans of the original some concern.
Those who’ve played the original BRAVELY DEFAULT might remember that you were actually able to turn the encounter rate all the way down to 0%. According to the wording from Square Enix, it seems this might not be possible in BRAVELY DEFAULT FLYING FAIRY HD Remaster. While that’s not 100% confirmed at this time, there might be an explanation if it turns out to be true.
The Western release of the original BRAVELY DEFAULT was actually based on an enhanced version that released in Japan called BRAVELY DEFAULT: For the Sequel. In Japan, the original BRAVELY DEFAULT didn’t allow players to adjust the encounter rate at all. In other words, if that feature isn’t included in BRAVELY DEFAULT FLYING FAIRY HD Remaster, it seems the title might be based on the Japanese original and not the enhanced Western release.
