Cyberpunk 2077’s physical edition will be cheaper than digital in Japan

There’s been a lot of confusion and distress concerning the cost and storage method of Switch 2 games. Amidst all that, Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition seems to be one of the few titles giving everyone what they want. Not only will it be the rare third party Switch 2 game that comes stored entirely on its cartridge, but that cartridge will actually be cheaper to buy than the game’s digital version if you’re in Japan.

The retail cost for the physical edition of Cyberpunk 2077 will be 9,328 yen (~$65 USD) in Japan, just a bit cheaper than its digital version at 9,878 yen (~$69). Typically, digital and physical games have the same price, or if anything, the digital version might cost less. This is a surprising twist on the usual scenario, but a welcome one if you’re a physical collector.

Unfortunately, no other regions seem to be getting this deal. In North America, Cyberpunk 2077 will be priced at $69.99 on the Switch 2 no matter which format you choose. We’ll see if any other games follow suit in or out of Japan, or if this is just a one time fluke. Stay tuned for the game’s launch alongside the Switch 2 on June 5th, 2025.
